A thirty year professional career is possible only because alternative medicine saved my life. That's a message after surviving terminal liver cancer in my 20's is about. Facing death saved my life in a profound way because it is the journey since surviving audiences need to know.. Being diagnosed with no chance of survival, and then to be denied coverage for the only chance left with alternative treatments was an eye opener. Through this experience I came to understand how the medical and health insurance systems fail us when we need them most. Understanding how people who choose alternative are forced to self-fund becomes an issue identified with one trip to a local health food store. The costs for supplements and organic foods you soon discover the financial impact of wellness. Multiply the cost of wellness by ten fold for recovery of illness and then you begin to see the folly of self-funding, and why self-funded care is a real danger when the money runs out and the disease rages on. Absorbing the costs in practitioners, cleanses, organic foods, equipment, nutrition, herbs and the supplements needed to recover from a health crisis defines why self funding is a heavy financial burden many can not sustain in a health crisis. Coerced then into insured toxic treatments, or running the risk of running short on money, these scenarios have resulted in the tragic loss of life for many far too young. Blessed as I was with a 2nd chance at life, I thereafter spent decades searching for an alternative medicine health coverage, only to find no such coverage exists. Offered a career in insurance is where and when all that seemed disconnected, connected when I discovered how to open the insurance vault to a 100% alternative medicine coverage. And that is why today I am founder and CEO of the GreenSurance Co-op, the non-profit 501(c)(3) for insured alternative healthcare. Through GreenSurance, this cancer survivor is taking the lessons learned and is determined to make a positive difference in the lives of others by empowering people with solutions long past due. And that's how THIS cancer survivor is today 'paying it forward'.
